Sideways Glances / Drawing Workshop

A workshop focused on portraiture and the expression of the gaze—directions, attitudes, and the interplay of light and shadow—through direct engagement with portraits from the museum’s collections. Black chalk, red chalk, charcoal, graphite, and watercolor are used in combination to capture a face and what it reveals.

Cengiz Özer, a visual artist and teacher, has been sharing his expertise for over 25 years. He has taught in Paris at iconic venues such as the Louvre (Ateliers du Carrousel), the Musée Carnavalet and the Petit Palais. Now based in the region, he also teaches at the MACS’s new cultural hub, the PARCC, a centre for contemporary art in Labenne.
