Lecture: Helleu and the American Artists
Presentation
Long associated with the elegant image of the Parisian woman of the Belle Époque, Paul Helleu was also an artist deeply influenced by his interactions with the American art scene. In this lecture, Élise Cambreling explores the little-known links between Helleu and American painters living in exile in Europe, from Whistler to Sargent, and looks back at his three crossings of the Atlantic to New York. An event to rediscover an artist to mark the 250th anniversary of US independence, organised in partnership with the France–US Association.
