To know

Workshop themes:

• Saturday 18 April – Ground floor of the museum
‘Hidden treasures of the Bonnat-Helleu Museum’
This workshop will encourage children to look at the museum in a new light by focusing on its architecture and décor. They will be invited to spot often subtle details and interpret them through drawing.
Techniques used: charcoal, pastel, red chalk.

• Saturday 23 May – Room 11
“Intimate portraits”
This workshop will introduce children to portraiture, drawing inspiration from the 19th-century works on display in Gallery 11, such as Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres’s Portrait of Antoinette Duvaucey, Baigneuse, and Francisco de Goya y Lucientes’s Self-Portrait.
Participants will draw inspiration from these works to create snapshots of everyday life that are both familiar and evocative.
Techniques used: charcoal and red chalk.

• Saturday 20 June – Gallery 13
‘Journey to the End of the World’
Drawing inspiration from the works in Gallery 13 (notably Eugène Boudin, Achille Zo and Eugène Girardet), the children will create an image in the style of a travel journal, combining observation, imagination and storytelling.
Techniques used: freehand drawing (pencil, ink, with possible highlights depending on the adaptation).

After discovering the museum's works, participants practise creating their own pieces in the museum's galleries. All materials are provided, and children get to take their creations home with them.
